Herding Dog Breeds

Herding Livestock is the oldest of dog professions. The Herding Group was part of the Working Group until 1983. The sheepdogs, cattle dogs, collies and corgis are included in this group. These dogs actively round up cattle and sheep. Some herd by circling while others are “heelers”

These are very intelligent dogs. They are good natured and affectionate. These dogs require regular brushing to minimize shedding. Even though these dogs are now companion dogs, they still have the need to herd and will herd adults and children alike.

They make excellent guard dogs and respond well to training. They are very possessive of their family.
